Hooray! Buehrle's a White Sock for Another Four Years

Obviously, all it took was an incredulous post featuring an elementary equation at FTG for Kenny Williams to pull his head out of his ass. The Sox got themselves one sweet-ass deal, speaking in terms of the pitching market. Whether Buehrle proves to actually be worth it for the length of the contract is another matter entirely, but hey, it's no Barry Zito albatross. Whatever happens, it's good business in terms of the fans. Buehrle and Konerko will be--and should be--the face of the franchise going forward.

Now Kenny should get busy and deal Contreras to the Mets, who are apparently still interested in the ancient wonder. Depending on the return, I'd consider trading either Vazquez (he's old and inconsistent--and yet pitching very well lately, increasing the probable return) or Garland (younger, but susceptible to getting absolutely shelled) too. It'd be nice if Dye had a good couple weeks coming out of the All-Star break to inflate his value a little, too. It's still a lost season, but with Buehrle on board for the future, I feel a lot better about looking to next year and beyond.

Good job on the rant, I read somewhere that it was the deciding factor in Kenny's decision to re-sign Buehrle.

We needed some good news to keep us fans for next year after we reached rock bottom with that Twins double header where we were out-scored 212-4. What a crappy year...

I was listening to ESPN Radio on the way home from work this morning and they had some Chicago sports talk guy on saying that signing Buehrle was "good short term, bad long term" and now all White Sox fans had to look forward to was a wasted year. He was upset that Buehrle was no longer a trading chip.

So the Sox sign Buehrle and this guy's depressed because that means you can't get, who, Lastings Milledge?

It's good to know there are insane people outside of Boston.

Unfortunately Chicago has 2 sports talk radio stations, so they get a bunch of guys who yell and scream about stupid shit to cover the endless hours or air time they need to fill.

I dont think too many of the actual fans are upset by the signing. Buehrle is a fan favorite, I know I was happy to hear he was staying.

Seriously, as if a four year deal for a front of the rotation type guy can even be considered long-term? I'd say Giants fans who will get to sit on Barry Zito's contract for the next seven years would disagree.

I think the Yankees should trade for all of the players you mentioned. Especially Dye.

Go Yanks!

Yeah that sports radio guy must be an idiot. Buehrle, despite being a better pitcher, is actually worth less in the market than guys like Contreras, Garland, and Vazquez because of their contract status. Buehrle made it clear that he was going to free agency after this year after he got traded, making him a 3 month rental and significantly decreasing his value. I doubt they would've even gotten Milledge out of a Buehrle trade. It'd be a huge coup if they got someone of Milledge's caliber out of Contreras, though--something that actually seems possible.

If I was a Mets fan I would really hope that they dont trade Milledge for Jose Fucking Contreres. As a Sox fan - go work your magic Kenny.

I actually think they should trade vazquez and contreres for Toriiii Hunter...and then have a firing squad waiting for him at his locker. I say it would be a good trade. But hey, thats just me.

What are the chances that Kenny Williams has mafia connections. He always seems a little too confident. He should leverage this influence in his trade making.
